Gomis faints during practice

le-malaise-de-gomisIt is being reported tonight that France/Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis collapsed during Wednesday’s practice in Guingamp. Fifty minutes into practice, Gomis fell to the ground, where he lied motionless. He did not collide with any player and seems to have suffered his fall without any aggravation by any other player.

According to reports, players frantically surrounded Gomis and signalled for help. After a few minutes, Gomis had awaken and walked to the bench, where had a few sips of water. After that, he asked if he could return to the pitch, but French and former Lyon fitness coach Robert Duverne refused to let Gomis continue for the day.

Gomis seems to have suffered from something called a Vasovagal attack. Claude Puel said that the club had been aware of Gomis’ Vasovagal attacks since their pre-season friendly against Deportivo de la Coruña.

Both French national team and Lyon officials have said they are worried about Gomis’ condition, but have yet to say how this will affect his being called up to the national team in replacement of Franck Ribery.

We will keep you updated on his situation.
