Transfer rumors: Cunningham to Auxerre?

There has been much talk around the American soccer circles about the arrivial of Dallas FC’s Jeff Cunningham in Auxerre. Cunningham is currenly only practicing with the team, mostly ‘to keep the player in shape for the World Cup,’ according to the player. Zach Foxhoven, another American player, is expected to practice with Auxerre in January.

Despite what might be said about a possible transfer to Auxerre, Cunningham insists that he is there just to train, and that he will be back with FC Dallas next season, where he has netted 22 goals for the club. And in addition, Auxerre manager Jose Fernandez said that the he is not interested in signing the player.

Still, the question of Cunningham playing in Ligue 1 did come up upon his arrival. “If you gave me the opportunity, I think I could succeed and score goals in France. It is a game of skill and power, which I like and that suits me pretty well. Of course, I need time to adapt. But I could,” said Cunningham according to Le Journal de Centre in Nevers, France.

Also, according to L’Equipe, both Toulouse and Nice are looking at possibly acquiring the services of Partizan Belgrade defender Pavle Ninkov. Ninkov is in contract with his current club until 2012, but is still being looked by Ligue 1 clubs. Ninkov has played against Toulouse twice in Europa League play this year.

Gaël Danic, rarely used midfielder for Valenciennes, also said that he is not happy with his current situation at the club and would consider options to move him to another club. “I ask myself ‘am I happy with the club’, but it is hard for me to accept,” said Danic. Danic met with coach Philippe Montanier yesterday and it was stated that the club wouldn’t oppose his departure.

Dynamo Kiev defender Pope Diakhaté looks to be interested in leaving the club after being bench, most recently in the club’s match against Barcelona in the Champions League. According to L’Equipe, Nice is interested in his services.

To solve their scoring woes since the absence of Charlie Davies, Sochaux is looking at three possible African players to sign in the winter. Algerian Abdelmalek Ziaya who played in Setif, Nigerian Ideye Brown who is  currently under contract with Neuchatel Xamax in Switzerland and Senegal’s Mame Biram Diouf  which plays for Molde in Norway but is property of Manchester United, are the players being looked at by the club.

Finally, Ligue 2 side Brest has invited Interblock Ljubljana defender Junior Ntame to practice with the team.

  1. They’ll never sign him. Even if he can probably score more goals in half a season than Niculae can in 3.
