Ligue 1 injury update: Matchday 11

Jimmy Briand returning after 9 months

Injury problems at Lyon continue to haunt the club for matchday 11 (rescheduled because of the France-Ireland playoff) as they will be withouth a number of key players in the upcoming match against league leaders Bordeaux.

Like usual, the defense takes a big hit, with Mathieu Bodmer, Francois Clerc and Jeremy Toulalan still not being available for Lyon. They will also be without the services of striker/winger Sidney Govou, who was added to the injury list this week with an injury to his left hamstring.

Manager Claude Puel said that his players are close to returning to the pitch but are just not quite there yet.

While the news might be bleak in Lyon, light is shining bright on Rennes. Today, Rennes finally added striker Jimmy Briand to their line up. Briand had ruptured his ACL during training with the French national team and had been sidelined for the last nine months. He is not expected to be in the starting line up, but he is expected to come in as a subsitute in Rennes’ upcoming match against Nancy.

Rennes will also see the return of attacking midfielder Jerome Leroy, who hasn’t played for the club since week 10 against Montpellier, and defender Kader Mangane, who hasn’t played the last two matches. Still, American captain Carlos Bocanegra will be missing this weekend’s match.

Auxerre will look to get their scoring streak back again, as they will see the return of Polish international Ireneusz Jelen, who had been missing from the line up the last two weeks. They will also see the return of Benoit Pedretti, who is returning from suspension.

In other injury news, RC Lens will be without the services of forward Kevin Monnet-Paquet. And, as we already know, Marseille will be with Mamadou Niang, after his shoulder injury in the Champions League match against Real Madrid.
