Paris FC start 2010 against league leaders

After a good start to the season, which eventually turned into a poor form midway thought, Paris will be hosting their first game of 2010 against current Championnat National league leaders Evian Thonon Gaillard.

When these teams met in August at Evian, Paris FC pulled off a 1-0 victory on the road. But since that point, PFC has struggled quite a bit, and have fallen to 10th place in the table. While they are still moving further away from a promotion spot, 10 points behind, moving up to Ligue 2 is still a possibility (however remote) for Paris FC.

As we have talked about all season long, Paris needs to have Belgian David Pollet continue his dominance on the pitch. Pollet, who is currently under contract by Lens and on a loan to Paris FC, already has 11 goals this season in CN play. But he along cannot keep the team in their current spot. Julien Lorthioir need to continue to the team as well. Loritioir, who scored 10 goals in the midfield position for Rodez last year, has yet to net a goal for the Paris side. Hopefully Loritioir will find his scoring touch in 2010.

While Paris’ scoring seems to be a one man show, their defense also needs to be tightened up a little. While not exactly the worse in the CN (in fact far from the worse), they have allowed 25 goals in 25 matches. Most of their losses this year have come when they concede two or more goals. Rarely do they lose when they only concede one goal. Anthony Weber has done a good job this season, but the team need to find some depth in the defense. This is the oldest part of their team and looking for youth talent might just help the Paris side on their back line.

All-in-all, Paris FC starts their season with a team that is looking like they are going to be promoted to Ligue 2 next year. And this would be the perfect time, and team, to turn Paris FC’s fortunes around. PFC currently ranks last in attendance in the CN, with only about 600 fans attending the matches.

Evian are currently the odds on favorites to win the game at +150, while PFC is respectable at +200.
